Yes, we already know very well that facial recognition technology has been in Android for a few years now. Nevertheless, until the arrival of the controversial iPhone X, this method of unlocking had not been popularized . Apple, as always, has marked the market trend for 2018, with the famous notch , and with a Face ID that improved the technology that we already had in Android.

The lack of a good dedicated hardware – the native Android facial unlock depends only on the camera -, made ** the manufacturers had to devise their own hardware, or improve the software that was already on Android, without much success. Safe methods like those of Samsung are not very fast, and very fast methods like those of OnePlus are not very safe. This could change in the next versions of Android , that would arrive with certain lines of code that you should know.

Native support for facial recognition hardware

As we have read in XDA Developers , the next versions of Android could incorporate native support for hardware dedicated to facial recognition . This would allow the manufacturers to make their work a little easier.

In particular, the line refers to an interface of Face Authentication Manager , a very good news . Why? Simple, currently, Android does not have native support for facial recognition, so the applications of the bank, Gmail, password applications, PayPal, and a long etc, have to be configured by fingerprint blocking .

Incorporating native support for facial recognition hardware, would imply that finally on Android we could use our face to login in certain apps . It may seem like a detail fool and little useful, but in our experience with the iPhone X , we can assure you that it’s faster and how the finger unlocking , since we only have to look at the phone. We hope, then, that Android P is in charge of releasing this software, which would translate into APIs dedicated to facial recognition.

And you, would you like to see more Android integration with face recognition?
