For those of us who are used to following the presentations of Apple’s new iPhone since the world is world, we are not surprised to see how the American company conceals information strategically about its products. Those of Cupertino have not shown, for example, technical data neither of the battery nor of the memory RAM of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR , following strategies of past years.
However, it does not usually take long since the new iPhone is introduced until the first performance tests of these new devices are posted on the Web. These tests, in addition to allowing us to compare the performance of mobile phones with other smartphones, shows the information that Apple hides so zealously during its keynotes.
Same RAM on the iPhone XR, 4 GB on the iPhone XS and XS Max
In the case of the iPhone XR, Apple’s “economic” iPhone, the cuts are not only found at the storage or screen level, but also in its RAM. Geekbench shows that the cheapest of the 3 new iPhone presented yesterday has 3 GB of RAM, exactly the same amount as the mobile phone that led the American firm’s catalog until a few hours ago.
And what about the RAM memory of the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max? According to the same test bench where the previous model has been tested, the two smartphones mount the same processor and same RAM, that is, 4 GB. In this way the and iPhone XS Max boast 1 GB more than the iPhone X of 2017.
Apple always uses less RAM than its Android rivals and, thanks to the excellent optimization of iOS, this does not represent any drag on the performance of their phones when facing phones with more RAM.
Performance of the new iPhone
With 1 GB more RAM (or the same, in the case of the iPhone XR ) and the new A12 Bionic chip, it is not that there are so many improvements in terms of performance compared to the previous generation. The same test bank offered 4,055 points in the tests of a single core and 10,375 points at the time of testing multiple cores.
Now the iPhone XS Max reaches 10,266 in the multi-core tests and 4,813 in the individual tests while the iPhone XR reaches 9,367 and 4,754 points respectively. Recall that, since the iPhone XS assembles the same internal hardware as the 6.5-inch model, the performance should be the same.
