Less than a week after the presentation of the Huawei Nova 3 , we already have Huawei Nova 3i among us, a lighter version of Huawei’s high-end economic range that further improves the relationship between quality and price with a device that launches the new SoC Kirin 710 and that can boast of integrating 4 cameras in a premium chassis at the level of the leading brands.
Huawei inspired his Nova 3 in the Huawei P20 Lite in terms of design terms, and this new version reduces a bit the processor power and the resolution of the cameras to get a pretty interesting mid-range that comes loaded with Artificial Intelligence for a multitude of tasks such as games, recognition of objects or online shopping.
This is the exterior of the Huawei Nova 3i
The economic successor of Huawei Nova 2 has been presented in the Philippines with an LCD / IPS screen 6.3 inches with resolution Full-HD + of 2340 x 1080 pixels (409ppi) and an aspect ratio of 19: 9 similar to the Nova 3, as a result of the use of a notch, which is responsible for housing the two front cameras, a secondary microphone, some sensors and an LED for notifications.
The terminal is built in aluminum and a Type 2.5D glass It covers both the front and back of the device. In the rear, a photographic system of two lenses with a small flange to protect them from scratches. Of course, the classic fingerprint reader with circular shape.
With regard to the distribution of elements along the Huawei Nova 3i, we have a hybrid tray for two nano Sim and a microSD card located on the left side of the device, while the volume and ignition buttons are located on the right of it.
Above we find a secondary microphone, while on the lower side the main microphone, a loudspeaker, an always on hand, make an appearance 3.5 mm jack for headphones and a port that, curiously, adopts a traditional format microUSB , so type C does not make an appearance, we assume that by saving costs.
Screen and technical characteristics of the Huawei Nova 3i
The Huawei Nova 3i arrives on the market with the aforementioned 6.3 inch screen (FullView Display 2.0) with FHD +, which occupies the 81% from the front. To save battery Huawei allows us lower the resolution of the same and even configure an automatic mode that changes the resolution according to the use we give to the device at all times. We can also control the intensity and color temperature Y hide the notch adding two black bands to the sides of it, a solution that other manufacturers have already used.
Although the panel of Huawei Nova 3i is remarkable, the truth is that the main protagonist of the device is its processor , since this is the first smartphone to integrate the SoC Kirin 710 of Hisilicon, which comes to be the direct competition of the Snapdragon 710.
This processor is manufactured in 12nm and consists of 4 Cortex-A73 cores @ 2.2 GHz and others 4 Cortex-A53 @ 1.7 GHz that take care of the lighter tasks.
With respect to performance of it, and doing a quick search through the network, we see how it is able to get single core and multi-core scores of about 1600/5600 points in Geekbench respectively, which puts it slightly behind the Qualcomm proposal, which according to our article on the performance of the Snapdragon 710 , round the 1900/5900 points in Geekbench. Something similar happens with Antutu 7 , where the Kirin 710 round the 140,000 points (Mali-G51 GPU / Turbo GPU) and the Snapdragon 710 reaches 170,000 points.
Anyway, we are facing figures from a 2016/2017 flagship, so if we take into account the price segment to which the Huawei Nova 3i points, we have nothing to object.
The Huawei Nova 3i comes with a unique configuration of 4GB of RAM and 128 GB storage (INE-LX2), so we have plenty of room to abuse multitasking and of course the storage is more than enough for the vast majority of users. In any case, as we mentioned before, we have a microSD slot that supports cards up to 256GB extra.
Cameras and operating system of the Nova 3i
Huawei boasts a photographic section in its new creature, and although we have 4 cameras, the quality drops a bit compared to the standard Nova 3. Indeed, we have two sensors 16MPx +2 Mpx in the back and two other sensors 24Mpx + 2Mpx in the front, making the second sensor of 2 Mpx in both cases of assistant for focus and depth tasks, and allowing to enjoy in the Huawei Nova 3i selective blurs (bokeh effect) and portrait mode.
It is more than possible that the lower resolution of the secondary sensors negatively affects the quality of night shots of the device, but even so, it comes loaded with extras such as AR Lens , stickers and “3D Qmoji” , the version of Huawei for the Animoji created by Apple and that will help us to create fun GIFs and videos with chameleons, wolves, cats or penguins as protagonists.
The Artificial intelligence (AI camera) does not miss the appointment of the Huawei Nova 3i, and will allow us to recognize objects, make purchases in Amazon and recognize scenes automatically to improve the quality of our photographs. Unfortunately, we do not have optical stabilizer .
The price range of the device also has some reflection in the connectivity of the same, that limits the support for WiFi to the types 802.11b / g / n at 2.4 GHz and makes the Bluetooth stay in version 4.2.
To finish, mention that we have a battery of 3,340 mAh It does not include a fast charging system and stays at 10W standards. The Huawei Nova 3i works with Android Oreo 8.1 , customized with EMUI 8.2.
Availability and price of Huawei Nova 3i
The Huawei Nova 3i is now available for booking and has a price of about 260 euros, so it is expected that the 300 euros when it arrives in our country, if that is the case.
